Service update due to COVID-19

Important message from Federation of Iraqi refugees (FIR)

As COVID-19 continues to spread rapidly around the world and the government announces new measures to stem coronavirus FIR like so many other organizations is following the Government guidelines telling everyone should work from home wherever possible.  To comply with this many of our functions are moving to operating remotely in part or in whole.

FIR has had to re-arrange the ways services are delivered in order to prioritize both staff, volunteers and client’s safety. It is also essential that we continue providing support services to The Iraqi and Kurdish community in Islington, London and the UK.

To ensure safety all face to face appointments and group activities have had to be postponed until further notice.  You will be acutely aware that this virus threatens the most vulnerable in our communities. Many in the Iraqi and Kurdish community across Britain fall into this category.

Our work is more critical than ever before! We aim to continue to deliver services whilst reducing risks to staff and volunteers who are so important in bringing expertise and compassion to our work.

To keep us all safe all in delivering our front line services providing to you one to one advice, advocacy support and all other services will be provided via the telephone and online, including video calls.  We have made all necessary arrangements to enable staff and volunteers to provide quality services remotely. This is the best ways to counteract the negative effects of this virus for all our clients.

We know this is a difficult time for many people, and that self-isolating and being confined to the home can bring practical challenges.  We are however a strong community here in the UK and will get through this crisis by pulling together. If you or anyone you know needs help or support please get in touch, you are not alone help is available.

We are in the process of temporarily transferring all integration, networking and group activities online. In order to enable us to continue supporting service users and ensuring as much as possible that everyone in our community avoids feelings of isolation and loneliness at this difficult time.

The Development worker and management committee will be available to respond to all enquiries via our email firrefugees@gmail.com

Stay safe and help each other. I hope to see you all in the near future.
